why upside down?
the hobo-dyer equal area projection attempts to accurately depict the inaccuracies produced when a spherical shape (the earth) is attempted to be represented in a two-dimensional format. while continents are stretched and shapes more readily distorted, especially towards the poles, the overall land masses are more equally represented.
